Homemade laundry detergent and softener
Make your own laundry detergent & softener. It is very easy and you avoid plastic bottle packaging.
Laundry detergent
(1 washing – use 200ml, put it into the washing machine)
What you need:
• 1 litre very hot water
• 20 grams laundry soap
• 3 big spoons washing soda
• around 50 drops of any preferred essential oil (optional)
How to make it:
1. In a big bowl, grate your soap, add washing soda and pour very hot water into it.
2. Mix it well, till your soap is dissolved.
3. Let it sit for 24 hours. Stirring or shaking (depends on your storage jar) time to times. You will see that your liquid will go thicker.
4. After 24 hours add your favourite essential oil.
Softener
(1 washing – 2 tablespoons, put it into the washing machine)
What you need:
• 12 tablespoon water
• 6 tablespoon vinegar
• around 40 drops of any preferred essential oil
How to make it:
1. Mix all ingredients together
Notes:
I like these homemade products because this way I know exactly what is in it and I avoid unnecessary plastic packaging.
The clothes washed in these homemade laundry essentials are clean but they don’t smell as strong as we are used to from commercially store bought items. I don’t mind because for me is more important that they are clean without any additional chemicals.
And if you are wondering if you can smell the vinegar in the clothes, I can assure you that you don’t.
